Don’t be a Lid
Make Feedback Inspiring
One of my Favorite Quotes
One of my favorite quotes comes from author, Jimmy Casas.
He says, “Don’t be a lid”.
He believes that when people come to you with an idea or want to share a story, they should be as excited, and motivated, if not more so, after talking to you. Even if that means they need to change the direction of their original idea.
Encouraging Others
First Thessalonians 5:11 says, “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing”.
Inspiring Feedback
We rise by lifting others. Empower others with encouraging words. It isn’t always easy. There are times when someone will say something that makes you want to raise your eyebrows, frown, be rude, tell him or her it cannot possibly happen, and reply in a way that twists the idea shut.
Resist the initial temptation to reply with a lid.
Instead, see how you can find out more about the person’s thinking, goals, or concerns. Encouraging one another looks like listening, processing with another person and giving honest feedback, but in a considerate and inspiring way.
